Homesteading is a lifestyle of self-sufficiency. It is characterized by subsistence agriculture, home preservation of food, and it may or may not also involve the small scale production of textiles, clothing, and craftwork for household use or sale. Modern homesteaders may often choose to plant and grow heirloom vegetables and tomatoes. Homesteading is not defined by where someone lives, such as the city or the country, but by the lifestyle choices they make.

I consider myself a “homesteader wanna be”.  I love the idea of being self sufficient, but also love to vacation, and adventure too much to stay home raising chickens or other livestock. I am not Mormon, but my In-Laws and most of my family are. With that said, I was raised in Utah during my early teen years and feel the Mormon ways closely replicate the homesteading ways and I have an enormous amount of respect for them. I learned at a very young age from many amazing women, how to dehydrate, pressure can, garden, sew and cook. This never really stuck with me during my early adult years as I was too busy working, going to college and raising kids to find time to do the cool homesteading things that I do now.

Currently, at my home, I am growing microgreens in the Winter, making my own Almond Milk, Nut butters, Flour, Fermented Foods such as Sauerkraut, Crutido, Fermented Carrots and Kavas. I pressure can many items for long term storage as well as dehydrate and freezedry food pretty much 24/7. I love making as many items I can from scratch.
