This is my #1 Recipe that I have adapted throughout the years. I have been making these cookies for decades. You know that one recipe that you get “known for” well this is mine. My family requests me to make these cookies for every occasion. Now that my children are adults, they now request them to take home with them for the drive home. This evening my oldest daughter texted me for my recipe which gave me the motivation to take the time to actually write out the recipe and post it. I have recently started browning my butter. To say that browned butter is a gamechanger is an understatement. The browned butter adds a unique nutty depth of flavor. My recipe uses almond extract. However, the amount I use doesn’t give it that almond extract flavor (which I LOVE) however for this recipe the extract is more of a “hmmm this is so delicious what is that I am tasting?” vibe. This is one of those recipes that you can use for generations to come.

Grammie’s Chocolate Chip Cookies

The most popular requested cookie of my family, especially my children.

Ingredients

  • 2 1/4 cup Unbleached flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 cup butter softened
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup packed brown sugar
  • 2 tsp Real vanilla
  • 2 tsp almond extract
  • 2 Large Eggs
  • 2 cups Semi Sweet or Dark Chocolate Chips or Chunks
  • 1 cup nuts (optional)

Instructions

  • Step 1- Preheat oven to 375 F.
  • Step 2- Combine flour, baking soda and salt in small bowl. Beat butter, granulated sugar, brown sugar, vanilla extract and almond extract in large mixer bowl until creamy. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Gradually beat in flour mixture. Stir in morsels and nuts. Drop by cookie scoop or rounded tablespoon onto ungreased baking sheets.
  • Step 3- Bake for 9 to 11 minutes or until golden brown. Cool on baking sheets for 2 minutes; remove to wire racks to cool completely.

Notes

Note: for even more deliciousness, brown the butter beforehand by cooking on low heat in a saucepan until the butter turns brown in color. Watch it carefully so it does not burn. Take off heat and set aside to room temperature before using. You can do this step ahead of time and keep in refrigerator. Take out to room temperature to soften before making cookies.
